Diagnostic Routine E

Diagnostic Overview

The Wipers Do Not Operate Correctly in the Low/High/Intermittent Mode(s) - Windshield or Rear Window

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Windshield Wiper Operation .

REFER to Rear Wiper Operation .

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK FOR SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) self-test.

Are any SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?








2. CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PIDs (Parameter Identifications)

1. Using a scan tool, view SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

2. Make sure the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.

3. Verify the status of each of the following SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) is displayed as OFF:

- Front Wiper Select Switch A (F_WIP_INT_D1)
- Front Wiper Select Switch B (F_WIP_INT_D2)
- Front Wiper Select Switch C (F_WIP_INT_D3)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 4 (F_WIP_INT_D4)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 5 (F_WIP_INT_D5)
- Front Wiper Command Low Speed (F_WIP_SLO_SW)
- Front Wiper Command High Speed (F_WIPE_FAST_SW)
- Washer Switch Front (F_WASH_SW)
- Single Wipe Stroke (WIPE_SINGLE)
- Rear Wiper Off Switch (R_WIPE_OFF_SW)
- Rear Wiper Delay 1 (R_WIPE_DEL1)
- Rear Wiper Delay 2 (R_WIPE_DEL2)
- Washer Switch Rear (R_WASH_SW)

Are all of the PIDs (Parameter Identifications) displayed as OFF?








3. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
