Diagnostic Overview

The Wiper Is Inoperative - Rear Window

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Rear Wiper Operation .

Special Tool(s)

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE REAR WIPER DELAY 1 (R_WIPE_DEL1) PID (Parameter Identification)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

3. While monitoring the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) R_WIPE_DEL1, place the wiper/washer switch into the rear window wiper INT 1 position.

Does the PID (Parameter Identification) read ON when the wiper/washer switch is in the INT 1 position?

2. CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

3. CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

4. CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR INPUT SIGNAL

NOTICE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.

1. Measure:

2. Ignition ON.

3. Place the wiper/washer switch into the rear window wiper INT 2 position and observe the test light.

Does the test light illuminate briefly approximately once every 3 to 5 seconds?

5. CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR INPUT SIGNAL FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. CHECK FOR CORRECT REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Inspect the rear window wiper motor connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the rear window wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Connect: Windshield Wiper Motor

6. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

7. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

1. Inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

4. Connect: Rear Window Wiper Motor

5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
