General Procedure

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Lifting Points .

2. Remove the 4 retainers and the underbody shield.

3. Start the engine and move the selector lever slowly through each gear, stopping in each position and allowing the transmission to engage.

4. With the engine running in PARK on a level hoist use the scan tool to make sure that the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85° C (185° F) - 93° C (200° F). Remove the oil leveling plug and check if the Motorcraft(R) MERCON(R) LV Automatic Transmission Fluid is even with the oil leveling plug hole.

5. NOTICE: Use Motorcraft(R) MERCON(R) LV Automatic Transmission Fluid for this transmission. Do not use any supplemental transmission fluid additives or cleaning agents. The use of these products can cause internal transmission components to fail, which will affect the operation of the transmission.

If the Motorcraft(R) MERCON(R) LV Automatic Transmission Fluid is not even with the oil leveling plug hole, compress the constant tension clamp and remove the transmission vent from the fill tube. Add Motorcraft(R) MERCON(R) LV Automatic Transmission Fluid in increments of.25 L (0.264 qt) until the Motorcraft(R) MERCON(R) LV Automatic Transmission Fluid is even with the oil leveling plug hole.

6. Install the oil leveling plug.
- Torque: 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

7. With the clamp facing the front of the vehicle, compress the constant tension clamp and install the transmission vent on the fill tube.

8. Install the underbody shield and the 4 retainers.
