WARNING: After a crash, the following safety belt components and attaching hardware must be inspected and tested to verify correct function:
- Retractors
- Buckles
- Child safety seat tether bracket assemblies
- ALR (Automatic Locking Retractor) feature for child safety seats (passenger seating positions only)
- BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) (if equipped)
- Front safety belt buckle support assemblies (slide bar) (if equipped)
- Safety belt shoulder belt height adjusters (if equipped)
Components that do not operate correctly or pass all Functional Tests in the Component Tests must be replaced with new components.
Safety belt assembly attaching areas must be inspected. Damaged or distorted attaching areas must be restored to their original structural integrity and a new safety belt assembly with new attaching hardware must be installed.
After deployment of the front safety belt pretensioners, a new safety belt system (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed.
Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the safety belt system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with seat belt deployable components, including pretensioners, load limiters and inflators. Never back probe deployable device electrical connectors. Tampering or back probing may cause an accidental deployment and result in personal injury or death.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Position the seat all the way forward and down.
2. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
3. Remove the safety belt anchor in the following sequence.
1. Slide up and remove the cushion side shield cover.
2. For passenger seat, disconnect the BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) electrical connector.
3. Remove the safety belt anchor bolt.
4. Remove the B-pillar trim panel. REFER to B-Pillar Trim Panel .
5. Remove the bolt and separate the D-ring.
6. Disconnect the adaptive load limiter (RH (Right Hand) side only) and pretensioner electrical connectors.
7. Remove the upper bolt (RH (Right Hand) side only), lower bolt and the safety belt retractor and pretensioner.
Installation
1. Position the safety belt retractor and pretensioner and install the upper (RH (Right Hand) side only) and lower bolts.
- Tighten both bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
2. Connect the adaptive load limiter (RH (Right Hand) side only) and pretensioner electrical connectors.
3. Position the D-ring and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
4. NOTE: Before installation, position the safety belt shoulder height adjuster and the B-pillar trim panel slide panel all the way down.
Install the B-pillar trim panel. REFER to B-Pillar Trim Panel .
5. Install the safety belt anchor in the following sequence.
1. Position the safety belt anchor and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
2. For passenger seat, connect the BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) electrical connector.
3. Install the cushion side shield cover.
6. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
7. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. REFER to Functional Test - Safety Belt Retractor, Road Test Inspection Functional Test - Safety Belt Retractor, Road Test Inspection.
