Removal
WARNING: After a crash, all of the following second and third row safety belt components and attaching hardware must be inspected and tested to verify correct function:
- Retractors
- Buckles
- Child safety seat tether bracket assemblies
- ALR (Automatic Locking Retractor) feature for child safety seats (passenger seating positions only)
- Inflatable safety belt systems
Components that do not operate correctly or pass all Functional Tests in the Component Tests must be replaced with new components.
Safety belt assembly attaching areas must be inspected. Damaged or distorted attaching areas must be restored to their original structural integrity and a new safety belt assembly with new attaching hardware must be installed.
Deployed inflatable safety belts must be replaced with new inflatable components (including retractors, buckles and inflators) and all parts in the service kit.
Failure to install new safety belt systems and attaching hardware increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING: Always carry or transport a live safety belt inflator with the safety belt buckle bolt installed in the inflator tube hand tight. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with seat belt deployable components, including pretensioners, load limiters and inflators. Never back probe deployable device electrical connectors. Tampering or back probing may cause an accidental deployment and result in personal injury or death.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If installing a new component for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, continue to step 2. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to step 3.
2. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is on.
Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
3. Detach the cushion cover retainers.
4. Remove 5 screws and the riser RH (Right Hand) inner and outer covers.
5. Disconnect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector and detach the retainers.
6. Remove the safety belt inflator bolt, slide the inflator bracket back and separate it from the cushion frame.
7. Lift the locking wedge and disconnect the safety belt inflator electrical connector.
8. Remove the 2 safety belt buckle bracket bolts and the safety belt buckle and inflator assembly.
9. Remove the safety belt buckle bolt and slide the safety belt buckle assembly off the inflator tube.
Installation
1. Assemble the safety belt buckle, safety belt buckle bracket, washers and bushings onto the inflator tube as shown in the exploded view.
- Position the tube in a vise or similar holding device to prevent turning when tightening the retainer.
2. Install the safety belt buckle bolt.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
3. Position the safety belt buckle and inflator assembly and install the 2 safety belt buckle bracket bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
4. Connect the safety belt inflator electrical connector and push the locking wedge in.
5. Slide the inflator bracket forward, engage it to the cushion frame and install the safety belt inflator bolt.
- Tighten to 3.5 Nm (31 lb-in).
6. Connect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector and attach the retainers.
7. Position the riser RH (Right Hand) inner and outer covers and install the 5 screws.
8. Attach the cushion cover retainers.
9. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is on.
If the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) was depowered, repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
10. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. REFER to Functional Test - Safety Belt Buckle and Tongue Functional Test - Safety Belt Buckle and Tongue.
