WARNING: After a crash, all of the following second and third row safety belt components and attaching hardware must be inspected and tested to verify correct function:
- Retractors
- Buckles
- Child safety seat tether bracket assemblies
- ALR (Automatic Locking Retractor) feature for child safety seats (passenger seating positions only)
- Inflatable safety belt systems
Components that do not operate correctly or pass all Functional Tests in the Component Tests must be replaced with new components.
Safety belt assembly attaching areas must be inspected. Damaged or distorted attaching areas must be restored to their original structural integrity and a new safety belt assembly with new attaching hardware must be installed.
Deployed inflatable safety belts must be replaced with new inflatable components (including retractors, buckles and inflators) and all parts in the service kit.
Failure to install new safety belt systems and attaching hardware increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Turn the ignition off and wait at least one minute.
2. Remove 5 screws and the seat track inboard inner and outer covers.
3. Detach the cushion cover front and inboard retainers.
4. Lift the cushion cover and foam pad. Disconnect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector.
5. Remove the bolt and the safety belt buckle.
Installation
1. Position the safety belt buckle on the inflator tube and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
2. Connect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector.
3. Reposition the cushion foam pad, cushion cover and engage the front and inboard retainers.
4. Position the seat track inboard inner and outer covers and install the 5 screws.
5. Prove out the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System): Turn the ignition from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition back to ON and monitor the air bag warning indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag warning indicator illuminates continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turns off. If a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault is present, the air bag warning indicator:
- fails to light.
- remains lit continuously.
- flashes.
The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned from OFF to ON. This is the time required for the RCM (Restraints Control Module) to complete the testing of the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). If the air bag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault exists, a chime sounds in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, diagnose and repair the air bag warning indicator and any SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) faults.
6. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. REFER to Functional Test - Safety Belt Buckle and Tongue Functional Test - Safety Belt Buckle and Tongue.
