Removal
WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM (Restraints Control Module) and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
2. Remove the front door trim panel. REFER to Door Trim Panel - Front .
3. Slide the locking wedge down to disengage, disconnect the side impact sensor electrical connector, remove the 2 side impact sensor bolts and the side impact sensor.
Installation
1. NOTE: Make sure the door and side impact sensor mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.
Position the side impact sensor, install the side impact sensor bolts, connect the side impact sensor electrical connector and slide the locking wedge back.
- Tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
2. Install the front door trim panel. REFER to Door Trim Panel - Front .
3. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
