Removal

WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.

NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .



2. Remove the instrument panel upper section. REFER to Instrument Panel Upper Section .

3. Remove 6 A/C (Air Conditioning) register duct screws and remove the A/C (Air Conditioning) register duct.





4. Remove 4 screws and the inboard and outboard brackets.





5. Remove 4 screws and the 2 demister ducts.





6. Spread the deployment chute away, disengaging the passenger air bag module hook retainers from the deployment chute and rotate the passenger air bag module out of the deployment chute.





Installation

1. WARNING: Before installing the passenger air bag module assembly:
- Inspect the passenger air bag module and instrument panel/deployment chute cavity for any damage or foreign material.
- Remove any foreign material from the passenger air bag module and instrument panel/deployment chute cavity.
- Install new parts if damaged.

Failure to follow these instructions may result in the passenger air bag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.


Position the passenger air bag module into the deployment chute engaging all the hook retainers.





2. Position the 2 demister ducts and install the 4 screws.

3. Position the inboard and outboard brackets and install the 4 screws.

4. Install the A/C (Air Conditioning) register duct and 6 screws.

5. Install the instrument panel upper section. REFER to Instrument Panel Upper Section .

6. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
