Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect the BJB (Battery Junction Box) fuse 63 (15A).
- Inspect the vehicle stop and turn lamps for correct operation.
- Inspect the trailer tow connector for damage.
Pinpoint Test
1. VERIFY THE TRAILER LAMP OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Determine if both trailer stop/turn lamps are inoperative.
Are both trailer stop/turn lamps inoperative?
2. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE THROUGH THE TRAILER TOW CONNECTOR (LEFT TRAILER STOP/TURN LAMP)
1. For the 4-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
2. For the 7-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW CONNECTOR (LEFT STOP/TURN 7- PIN)
1. Disconnect: Trailer Tow Connector.
2. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
4. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN RELAY
1. Disconnect: Trailer Tow Left Stop/Turn Relay.
2. Substitute a known good relay.
3. For the 4-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
4. For the 7-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
5. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL
1. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
6. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY BJB (Battery Junction Box) VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
7. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
8. PERFORM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST AND RECHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) on-demand self-test.
3. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
9. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280D.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
10. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW LEFT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
11. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE THROUGH THE TRAILER TOW CONNECTOR (RIGHT TRAILER STOP/TURN LAMP)
1. For the 4-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
2. For the 7-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
12. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW CONNECTOR (RIGHT STOP/TURN 7- PIN)
1. Disconnect: Trailer Tow Connector.
2. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
13. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN RELAY
1. Disconnect: Trailer Tow Right Stop/Turn Relay.
2. Substitute a known good relay.
3. For the 4-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
4. For the 7-pin connector, while applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
14. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL
1. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
15. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY BJB (Battery Junction Box) VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
16. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
17. PERFORM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST AND RECHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) on-demand self-test.
3. While applying the brake pedal, measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
18. CHECK THE TRAILER TOW RIGHT STOP/TURN LAMP RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280D.
3. Measure:

20. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION
1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.
2. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary
3. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
