Diagnostic Overview

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Is Never or Always On

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms can be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

REFER to Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) .

If the engine MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) request message is missing or invalid for less than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) to its last state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received.

If the engine MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 in continuous memory and defaults the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) on.

Pinpoint Test

1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) self-test.

Are any PCM (Powertrain Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?








2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 recorded?








3. CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, view the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

3. Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) (MIL) PID (Parameter Identification). Command the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) on and off. Observe the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp).

Does the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illuminate when selected on and turn off when selected off?
