Diagnostic Overview
The Tachometer Is Inoperative
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
NOTE: If DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms can be an inoperative speedometer, temperature gauge or odometer.
REFER to Tachometer .
If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the engine RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) data from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) for more than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 in continuous memory and defaults the tachometer to 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).
Pinpoint Test
1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) self-test.
Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?
2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?
3. CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU
1. In the display mode menu, press the message center (LH (Left Hand) steering wheel) switch to the right to display the tachometer.
Does the tachometer display?
4. CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, view the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
3. Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) tachometer (TACH_IND) PID (Parameter Identification). Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer begin at 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute), increase to 6,000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) (optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) bar graph display), 7,000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) (base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) or IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) analog gauge display) then return to 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute)?
