Interior - Console Storage Compartment Hard To Open

FORWARD CENTER CONSOLE STORAGE BIN DOOR
DIFFICULT TO OPEN

FORD:
2011-2012 Explorer

ISSUE
Some 2011-2012 Explorer may exhibit a forward center console storage bin door that is difficult to open.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open the bin by pressing downward lightly at the forward edge, front of vehicle, of the storage bin door while pressing the release button.





2. Inspect for missing rubber bumpers. (Figure 1)

a. If both rubber bumpers are present, do not continue with this article. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM) for normal diagnostics.

b. If any of the rubber bumper are missing proceed to Step 3.

3. Replace missing bumpers.

a. The bumpers can be reinserted by using a paper clip or stiff wire that is not sharp and inserting it into the hole in the bumper.

b. Place the bumper in the hole of the bin and push in to place using the paper clip or wire. This will elongate the bumper so it can be inserted easily.
