Diagnostic Overview

The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally, Vertically or Recline - Driver, With Power Recline

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 120 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

When the driver seat control switch is activated, voltage and ground is supplied to the applicable seat motor to move the seat to the desired position. There are 3 seat track motors that combine to move the seat cushion horizontally (forward/rearward) and vertically (front up/down and rear up/down). There is an additional motor in the seat recliner mechanism to move the seat backrest forward and rearward.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.

3. Operate the driver seat forward and rearward.

Does the seat move horizontally?

2. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Recline the driver backrest forward and rearward.

Does the seat backrest recline forward and rearward?

3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Horizontal Motor C362.

2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.
While pushing the driver seat control switch forward and rearward, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position?

4. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

5. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. DETERMINE THE SEAT HEIGHT ADJUST FAILURE

1. Operate the seat front and rear height adjustments.

Does the seat front and rear height adjust up and down?

7. CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE REAR HEIGHT MOTOR

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Rear Height Motor C363.

2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.
While pressing the rear height adjust switch up and down, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position?

8. CHECK THE REAR SEAT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

9. CHECK THE REAR SEAT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

10. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Front Height Motor C382.

2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.
While pressing the front height adjust switch up and down, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position?

11. CHECK THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

12. CHECK THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

13. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Recliner Motor C3187.

2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.
While pushing the recline switch forward and rearward, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated in both directions and 0 volt in the rest position?

14. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

15. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

16. CHECK FOR SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

Ignition OFF.

2. Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.

3. Connect: All previously disconnected electrical connectors.

4. Ignition ON.

5. Using a scan tool, clear the RCM (Restraints Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

6. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.

7. Using a scan tool, perform RCM (Restraints Control Module) self-test.

Are any RCM (Restraints Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) retrieved during self-test?
