Interior - 3rd Power Fold Seat Won't Latch In Stowed Position

3RD ROW POWER FOLD SEAT-NOT LATCHING IN
STOW POSITION AND/OR BOUNCES BACK - BUILT
ON OR BEFORE 1/24/2012

ISSUE
Some 2011-2012 Explorer vehicles equipped with power fold 3rd row seats and built on or before 1/24/2012 may exhibit a 3rd row power seat not latching in stow position and/or bounces back and stops in mid-travel.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Position the drivers and passengers seat all the way forward.
2. Position the 2nd row seat in the forward tumbled position.
3. Position both left and right 3rd row seats to the stow position. Apply all of the subsequent steps to both the left and right side 3rd row seats.
4. Remove the flipper panel from the load floor support Y-bracket and fold to free side of the flipper panel back onto the seat back. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10 for an exploded view.
5. Remove the load floor support (Y-brackets) from the floor pan.
6. Grab the back edge of the mid carpet and roll it forward, toward vehicle front, to expose the gray carpet padding.
7. Mark a rectangle on the carpet padding to be cut. (Figure 1)
a. Be careful not to cut all the way through to the carpet.
8. Cut away the rectangular area of the gray carpet padding on the back side of the carpet, peel away the padding until carpet backing is exposed.
9. Position the carpet to the original position. Ensure all the edges of the carpet are tucked under the interior quarter trim panels.
10. Install the Y-brackets and torque the mounting bolts to 18 N.m (159 lb-in.)
11. Attach the flipper panels to the Y-brackets.
12. Reposition the front, 2nd row and 3rd row seats to original position.
