Removal
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with seat belt deployable components, including pretensioners, load limiters and inflators. Never back probe deployable device electrical connectors. Tampering or back probing may cause an accidental deployment and result in personal injury or death.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Turn the ignition OFF and wait at least one minute.
2. Lift from the front and remove the front covers.
3. Remove the 2 front mounting bolts.
4. Position the seat all the way forward and down.
5. Slide up and remove the cushion side shield cover.
6. Remove the safety belt anchor.
- For driver seat, remove the bolt and separate the safety belt anchor.
- For passenger seat, disconnect the BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) electrical connector, remove the bolt and safety belt anchor.
7. Remove the 2 rear mounting bolts.
8. Position the seat to the middle of the track.
9. If installing a new component for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) . Otherwise, continue to step 10.
10. Disconnect the seat electrical connector.
11. WARNING: Use care when handling the front passenger seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly, placing excessive weight on or sitting on a front passenger seat that is not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged seat components. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the OCS (Occupant Classification System) and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
Remove the front seat.
Installation
WARNING: Make sure the front passenger seat is correctly installed and fastened to the vehicle. Do not force the alignment to the floorpan mounting holes. If the seat does not align to the floorpan mounting holes, repair the seat or floorpan as needed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the OCS (Occupant Classification System) and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Follow the installation procedure for correct seat fastener tightening sequence. The front mounting bolts must be installed and tightened to the correct specification before the rear mounting bolts.
1. Position the seat in the vehicle.
2. Connect the seat electrical connector.
3. Insert the 2 seat track rear locator pins into the SPACE (Side Protection and Cabin Enhancement) tube.
4. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
If a new component was installed for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, connect the battery ground cable. REFER to Battery Disconnect .
5. Position the seat all the way rearward.
6. Install the 2 front mounting bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
7. Install the front covers.
8. Position the seat all the way forward and down.
9. WARNING: Always deplete the backup power supply before repairing or installing any new front or side air bag SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) component and before servicing, removing, installing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side impact sensors or the RCM (Restraints Control Module). Nearby components include doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches. Refer to the Description and Operation portion of Restraints and Safety Systems for location of the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and impact sensor(s). To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped). Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If a new component was installed for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. REFER to Battery Disconnect .
10. Install the safety belt anchor bolt.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- For passenger seat, Connect the BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) electrical connector.
11. Install the cushion side shield cover.
12. Install the 2 rear mounting bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
13. If the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) was depowered, repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
