Diagnostic Overview
A Single Mirror Does Not Function With Switch Logic
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 124 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Rear View Mirrors - Exterior, Power .
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect the exterior mirror control switch.
- Inspect the exterior mirror.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT AND RIGHT MOVEMENT
1. Ignition ON.
2. Operate the LH (Left Hand) and RH (Right Hand) exterior mirrors in the left and right direction using the exterior mirror control switch.
Do both exterior mirrors move left and right?
2. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN MOTOR
NOTICE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Incorrectly Operating RH (Right Hand) Exterior Mirror or LH (Left Hand) Exterior Mirror.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Select the incorrectly operating mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
5. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the up, down and released positions, monitor:
6. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the up, down and released positions, monitor:
Did the test light illuminate in the up and down position and not illuminate in the released position?
3. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C535A (base mirrors).
3. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C504 (heated mirrors).
4. Ignition ON.
5. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
6. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is any voltage present?
4. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
3. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
5. CHECK THE BASE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
2. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
6. CHECK THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
2. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
7. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT MOTOR

3. Ignition ON.
4. Select the incorrectly operating mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
5. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the right, left and released positions, monitor:
6. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the right, left and released positions, monitor:
Did the test light illuminate in the right and left position and not illuminate in the released position?
8. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C535A (base mirrors).
3. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C504 (heated mirrors).
4. Ignition ON.
5. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
6. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is any voltage present?
9. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
3. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
10. CHECK THE BASE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
2. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
11. CHECK THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. For incorrectly operating LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:
2. For incorrectly operating RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
