Diagnostic Overview

An Individual Button/Feature Is Inoperative from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter

Normal Operations and Fault Conditions

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature is controlled by the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module and the BCM (Body Control Module). When a button is pressed on an IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) the TIC (Transmitter Identification Code) and RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) command is received by the internal TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module antenna. If the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module determines that it is a valid and programmed TIC (Transmitter Identification Code), it sends the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) command and TIC (Transmitter Identification Code) to the BCM (Body Control Module) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network). When the BCM (Body Control Module) receives the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) command, it carries out the command by controlling the door locks or activating the horn and turn signals for the panic alarm.

The BCM (Body Control Module) disables the panic feature if the ignition key is in any position other than OFF or LOCK.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter)

Pinpoint Test

NOTE: The panic feature only operates when the key is in the OFF or LOCK position

1. VERIFY THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION

1. Press the lock and unlock button on the driver door lock control switch while observing the door lock operation.

Do the door locks operate correctly?

2. VERIFY THE HORN OPERATION

1. Using a scan tool, view the BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

2. Select the BCM (Body Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) (HORN) and active command the horn on.

Does the horn sound when commanded on?

3. VERIFY THE HAZARD LAMP OPERATION

1. Place the hazard switch in the ON position.

Do the hazard lamps operate correctly?

4. VERIFY THE LIFTGATE RELEASE OPERATION

1. Press the liftgate release button on the liftgate.

Does the liftgate open?

5. VERIFY THE REMOTE START BUTTON

1. Using a scan tool, view the BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

2. Select the BCM (Body Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) (LST_RKE_xMTR) while pressing the remote start button on an IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter).

Does the PID (Parameter Identification) indicate the remote start button is being pressed?
