Diagnostic Routine I
Diagnostic Routine I
Diagnostic Overview
The Liftgate Intelligent Access (IA) Is Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 109 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 117 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operations and Fault Conditions
REFER to Liftgate Intelligent Access (IA) for information on the operation of the IA (Intelligent Access) feature.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Exterior liftgate release switch
- IA (Intelligent Access) key
Pinpoint Test
NOTE: The IA (Intelligent Access) feature is a programmable parameter and can be enabled/disabled with a scan tool. If the feature is disabled, the IA (Intelligent Access) feature to enter the vehicle and passive starting will be inoperative. To start the vehicle, the IA (Intelligent Access) key has to be placed in the backup slot.
1. CHECK THE RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) OPERATION
1. Press the unlock button on an IA (Intelligent Access) key.
Does the driver door unlock?
2. CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE OPERATION
1. Press the interior power liftgate switch.
Does the power liftgate open?
3. CHECK THE IA (Intelligent Access) KEY
1. Place the IA (Intelligent Access) key on the center console and start the engine.
Does the engine start?
4. CARRY OUT A NETWORK TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the network test.
Does the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module and LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) pass the network test?
5. RETRIEVE THE RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE SELF-TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B113E:11 present?
6. CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Disconnect: Liftgate Release Switch.
2. Using a scan tool, clear the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
3. Using a scan tool, perform the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B113E:11 retrieved again?
7. CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: RFA (Remote Function Actuator) Module C2153B.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
8. CHECK THE RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE EXTERNAL TRUNK SWITCH (Trunk_Ext_Sw) PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool, view RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Press the liftgate release switch while monitoring the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PID (Parameter Identification) Trunk_Ext_Sw.
Does the PID (Parameter Identification) indicate the switch is being pressed?
9. CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH
1. Disconnect: Liftgate Release Switch.
2. Using a scan tool, view RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
3. Monitor the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PID (Parameter Identification) Trunk_Ext_Sw.
4. Connect a fused jumper wire:
Does the PID (Parameter Identification) indicate that the switch is being pressed?
10. CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Using a scan tool, view RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PID (Parameter Identification) Trunk_Ext_Sw.
3. Connect a fused jumper wire:
Does the PID (Parameter Identification) indicate that the switch is being pressed?
11. CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: RFA (Remote Function Actuator) Module C2153B.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
12. CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA (Intelligent Access) ANTENNA
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Liftgate IA (Intelligent Access) Antenna.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance between 0.3 and 0.6 ohms?
13. CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA (Intelligent Access) ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Disconnect: RFA Module C2153A.
2. Ignition ON.
3. Measure:
Is any voltage present?
14. CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA (Intelligent Access) ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Measure:
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
15. CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA (Intelligent Access) ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO EACH OTHER
1. Measure:
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
16. CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA (Intelligent Access) ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
17. CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary
4. Reconnect all RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
