Diagnostic Overview
The Audio Input Jack Is Inoperative Or Has Poor Sound Quality
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Audio Input Jack Mode .
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Make sure the MP3 (Moving Pictures Experts Group -1 Audio Layer 3) device is operating correctly.
Special Tool(s)
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK AUDIO
1. Connect: 105-00120.
2. Using the 105-00120 , attempt to play an audio file using the audio input jack.
Does the file play correctly?
2. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Audio Input Jack.
3. Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A (without SYNC(R)).
4. Disconnect: APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) C2383 (with SYNC(R)).
5. Ignition ON.
6. Measure:
Is any voltage present?
3. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Measure:
Are the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
4. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO SHIELD - VEHICLES WITHOUT SYNC(R)
1. Measure:
Are the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
5. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN - VEHICLES WITHOUT SYNC(R)
1. Measure:
Are the resistance less than 3 ohms?
6. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO SHIELD - VEHICLES WITH SYNC(R)
1. Measure:
Are the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
7. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN - VEHICLES WITH SYNC(R)
1. Measure:
Are the resistance less than 3 ohms?
8. ISOLATE THE AUDIO INPUT JACK
1. Connect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A (without SYNC(R)).
2. Connect: APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) C2383 (with SYNC(R)).
3. Install a new audio input jack. REFER to Audio Input Jack .
4. Connect: 105-00120.
5. Using the 105-00120 , attempt to play an audio file using the audio input jack.
Does the file play correctly?
9. CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
4. Reconnect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
10. CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
4. Reconnect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
