Removal

1. Remove the RH (Right Hand) catalytic converter. REFER to Catalytic Converter - RH, FWD or REFER to Catalytic Converter - RH, AWD .

2. Disconnect the RH (Right Hand) HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensor) electrical connector.





3. Remove the 6 nuts and the RH (Right Hand) exhaust manifold.

1. Discard the nuts and gasket.

4. Clean and inspect the RH (Right Hand) exhaust manifold. REFER to Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection .

5. Remove and discard the 6 RH (Right Hand) exhaust manifold studs.





6. NOTICE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These may cause scratches and gouges resulting in leak paths. Use a plastic scraper to clean the sealing surfaces.

Clean the exhaust manifold mating surface of the cylinder head with Motorcraft(R) Metal Surface Prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.

Installation

1. Install 6 new RH (Right Hand) exhaust manifold studs.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).

2. NOTICE: Failure to tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to specification a second time will cause the exhaust manifold to develop an exhaust leak.

Using a new gasket, install the RH (Right Hand) exhaust manifold and 6 new nuts. Tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).





3. Connect the RH (Right Hand) HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensor) electrical connector.





4. Install the RH (Right Hand) catalytic converter. REFER to Catalytic Converter - RH, FWD or REFER to Catalytic Converter - RH, AWD .
