Part 2
Engine - All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Special Tool(s)
Material(s)
45. NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove and discard the upper stabilizer link nuts.
46. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.
NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove and discard the tie-rod end nuts.
1. Separate the tie-rod ends from the wheel knuckles.
47. NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part number or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal or CV (Constant Velocity) boot may occur.
NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.
NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove and discard the lower ball joint-to-wheel knuckle nuts.
1. Separate the lower ball joints from the wheel knuckles.
2. Separate the halfshafts from the wheel knuckles.
48. Remove the bolt and position the EPAS (Electronic Power Assist Steering) heat shield aside.
49. Remove the bolt for the EPAS (Electronic Power Assist Steering) wiring harness bracket.
50. Disconnect the 2 EPAS (Electronic Power Assist Steering) electrical connectors.
51. Detach the EPAS (Electronic Power Assist Steering) wiring harness pin-type retainer from the steering gear.
52. Using a wax pencil (or equivalent) apply witness marks to the vehicle and subframe to aid in installation.
53. Position 300-OTC1585AE under the subframe assembly.
54. NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove the subframe bracket-to-body bolts.
55. NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove the rear subframe bolts and the subframe brackets.
56. NOTE: RH (Right Hand) shown, LH (Left Hand) similar.
Remove the front subframe bolts.
57. Lower the subframe assembly from the vehicle.
58. Pull the RH (Right Hand) wheel knuckle outward and rotate it toward the rear of the vehicle.
1. Secure the RH (Right Hand) wheel knuckle assembly.
59. Remove the 2 intermediate shaft bracket nuts.
60. Remove the RH (Right Hand) intermediate and halfshaft as an assembly.
61. Pull the LH (Left Hand) wheel knuckle outward and rotate it toward the rear of the vehicle.
1. Secure the LH (Left Hand) wheel knuckle assembly.
62. NOTICE: The sharp edges on the stub shaft splines can slice or puncture the oil seal. Use care when inserting the stub shaft into the transmission or damage to the component may occur.
Using 100-001 (T50T-100-A) and 205-832 , remove the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft from the transmission.
63. Remove and discard the circlip from the stub shaft.
64. Remove the 2 RH (Right Hand) halfshaft support bracket studs.
65. Remove the 2 bolts and the RH (Right Hand) halfshaft support bracket.
66. If equipped, disconnect the oil cooler coolant hoses.
67. Remove the 2 secondary latches from the transmission fluid cooler tubes at the transmission fluid cooler thermal bypass valve.
68. Using 307-569 , disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid cooler thermal bypass valve.
69. Remove the 2 fasteners and the inspection cover.
70. Remove and discard the 3 torque converter bolts.
71. Remove the 4 oil pan-to-transaxle bolts.
72. Disconnect the RH (Right Hand) CMS (Catalyst Monitor Sensor) electrical connector.
73. Remove the 4 nuts and the RH (Right Hand) catalytic converter.
1. Discard the nuts and gasket.
74. Remove the 5 bolts and the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) support bracket.
75. Remove the 5 bolts and the PTU (Power Transfer Unit).
76. NOTE: Position a block of wood under the transaxle.
Install 300-OTC1585AE and 014-00001.
77. Remove the transaxle support insulator through bolt and nut.
78. Remove the 3 nuts, the bolt and the transaxle support insulator bracket.
