Pinpoint Test J: All The Demand Lamps Are Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The Smart Junction Box (SJB) supplies voltage to the demand lamps when the battery saver feature is not active.
- DTC B1316 (Battery Saver Relay Coil Circuit Short to Ground) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to ground on the demand lamp voltage supply circuits.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- SJB
PINPOINT TEST J: ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
J1 CHECK THE PUDDLE LAMP OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Open any door and observe the puddle lamps.
- Do the puddle lamps illuminate?
Yes
GO to J2.
No
For Explorer or Mountaineer, GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: The Puddle Lamp(s) Is Inoperative
For Explorer Sport Trac, GO to Pinpoint Test F.
-------------------------------------------------
J2 CHECK THE SJB DTCs FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS
- Use the recorded results from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Is DTC B1316 recorded?
Yes
REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to isolate the possible causes of the circuit short on circuits CLN01 (GN/VT) and CLN15 (GY/YE). Diagrams By Number
No
GO to J3.
-------------------------------------------------
J3 CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Open the glove compartment and observe the glove compartment lamp.
- Does the glove compartment lamp operate correctly?
Yes
GO to J4.
No
GO to J5.
-------------------------------------------------
J4 BYPASS THE SJB
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the SJB C2280a-23, circuit CLN01 (GN/VT), harness side and battery positive.
- Operate any demand lamp on.
- Does the demand lamp illuminate?
Yes
GO to J5.
No
REPAIR circuit CLN01 (GN/VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
J5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
