Pinpoint Test AG: The CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM Warning Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The charging system warning is controlled by the Instrument Cluster (IC) based upon the data received from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Charging system
- IC



PINPOINT TEST AG: THE CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING IS INOPERATIVE

AG1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION


- Start the engine.
- Close all doors.
- Open the driver door.
- Does the DOOR AJAR message display in the message center?

Yes
GO to AG2.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation.

AG2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any charging system DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Charging System.

No
GO to AG3.

AG3 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM OPERATION


- Check the charging system operation. Refer to Charging System.
- Does the charging system operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AG4.

No
REFER to Charging System.

AG4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U1900, REFER to Information Bus.

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Computers and Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
