Pinpoint Test V: The 4X4 High Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The 4X4 control module sends the 4X4 high command over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The Instrument Cluster (IC) monitors the command from the 4X4 control module and illuminates the 4X4 high indicator when the vehicle is in 4X4 high.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) system concern
- 4X4 control module
- IC
PINPOINT TEST V: THE 4X4 HIGH INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

V1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE 4X4 CONTROL MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded 4X4 control module DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any 4X4 control module DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Transfer Case.
No
GO to V2.

V2 VERIFY THE 4WD OPERATION
- Verify that the vehicle is in 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) when the 4X4 high is switched off, and that the 4WD high operates when switched to the 4X4.
- Does the 4X4 high operate correctly?
Yes
GO to V3.
No
REFER to Transfer Case.

V3 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC all warning lamps (ALL_LAMP) active command. Command all the warning lamps on and off. Observe the 4x4 high indicator.
- Does the 4x4 high indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
INSTALL a new 4X4 control module. REFER to Transfer Case. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
