Normal Operation
The restraint control module (RCM) monitors the operation of the air bag warning indicator. When a failure is detected in the air bag system, the RCM sends the instrument cluster a status message over the controller area network (CAN) to illuminate the air bag warning indicator and to sound the chime. The instrument cluster monitors these messages and operates the air bag warning indicator and the chime according to the data. When the instrument cluster fails to see the message from the RCM to illuminate the air bag warning indicator, it sets DTC B1868.
