Test E: The Steering Wheel Control Switch Illumination Source Is Inoperative
PINPOINT TEST E: THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SWITCH ILLUMINATION SOURCE IS INOPERATIVEE1-E3:
E3-E4:
Normal Operation
When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK position or the headlamp ON position, voltage is supplied to the instrument panel dimmer switch through circuit 14 (BN). The instrument panel dimmer switch then sends a variable voltage to the backlighting control system through circuit 235 (RD/BK). The ground signal is a common steering wheel switch ground, which is used in conjunction with the horn and the vehicle speed control. The ground is supplied to the steering wheel control switch from the powertrain control module (PCM) through circuit 848 (DG/OG).
Possible Causes
- circuit 235 (RD/BK) open
- circuit 848 (DG/OG) open
- clockspring
- steering wheel control switches
- steering wheel control switch harness
