Removal and Installation

Driveshaft - Rear, One-Piece

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





2. Index-mark the driveshaft yoke and the transfer case flange.





3. Index-mark the driveshaft yoke and the rear axle pinion flange.





4. Remove and discard the four bolts.





5. CAUTION: The driveshaft yoke fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot. Never hammer on the driveshaft or any of its components to disconnect the yoke from the flange. Pry only in the slot on each side of the driveshaft yoke, with a suitable tool, to disconnect the yoke from the flange.

Using a suitable tool, disconnect the driveshaft yoke from the rear axle pinion flange, and remove the driveshaft from the vehicle.

Installation





1. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

Position the driveshaft yoke on the transfer case flange.





2. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

Position the driveshaft yoke on the rear axle pinion flange.





3. CAUTION: Install new bolts.

NOTE: Bolt direction is vehicle application dependent.

Loosely install the four new bolts.





4. CAUTION: Install new bolts.

CAUTION: The driveshaft yoke fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot. To make sure that the yoke seats squarely on the flange, tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern as shown.

Install the four new bolts.





5. Tighten the four bolts.
6. Lower the vehicle.
