Visual Inspection Chart
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the gearshift lever from being moved out of the PARK (P) position. The ignition switch must be in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed to move the gearshift lever out of the PARK (P) position. The brake pedal position is detected by the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch.
The manual override button will mechanically bypass the electronic portion of the shift interlock system and allow the gearshift lever to be moved out of the PARK (P) position. The manual override button is part of the gearshift lever assembly.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom and Diagnosis By Symptom - External Controls.
