Axle Carrier Bushing








Special Tool(s)

Removal

1. NOTE: Axle tube bushing removal shown, axle housing bushing is a similar procedure.

Remove the front axle assembly.





2. Place the special tool on the bushing and index-mark the housing in line with the arrow on the special tool.





3. Using a feeler gauge, measure the gap between bushing flange and the axle housing. At the index mark, record the measurement.





4. Tap the special tool on, between the axle housing and the bushing flange.





5. Assemble the remaining remover tools, then remove and discard the bushing.

Installation





1. NOTE: Axle tube bushing installation shown, axle housing bushing is a similar procedure.

Set the new bushing in the housing bore, then install the special tools. Align the arrow on the special tool with the index mark on the axle housing.





2. NOTE: Do not use power tools.

Tighten the drawbolt to install the bushing.
Draw the bushing into the housing to the gap measured in the Removal portion.
3. Install the front axle assembly.

4. CAUTION: Install new bolts, washers, spacers and nuts in the front differential support bushing.

Check the fluid level and fill the axle to specification.
5. Lower the vehicle.
