Safety Belt Buckle and Pretensioner - Front Row

REMOVAL

WARNING:
^ THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE PRETENSIONER AND SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER ARE PYROTECHNIC DEVICES. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG EQUIPPED VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING A SAFETY BELT BUCKLE PRETENSIONER OR SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER.
^ THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE PRETENSIONER AND SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER ARE PYROTECHNIC DEVICES. NEVER PROBE PRETENSIONER ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. DOING SO COULD RESULT IN PRETENSIONER OR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
^ AFTER DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAG SURFACE COULD CONTAIN DEPOSITS OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE, A PRODUCT OF THE GAS GENERANT COMBUSTION THAT IS IRRITATING TO THE SKIN. WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTERWARDS.
^ NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAG MODULE. DOING SO COULD RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.


NOTE:
^ No restraint system diagnostic tool is available for the safety belt buckle pretensioners. If the ignition switch is set to the RUN or START position with the pretensioner electrical connector disconnected, the DTC(s) for an open circuit will be activated.
^ The left-hand drive passenger side safety belt buckle and pretensioner is shown, all others are similar.

All vehicles
1. Prepare the vehicle for safety belt buckle and pretensioner removal.
1 Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

WARNING: TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS AND BEFORE SERVICING, REPLACING, ADJUSTING OR STRIKING COMPONENTS NEAR THE FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS, SUCH AS DOORS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CONSOLE, DOOR LATCHES, STRIKERS, SEATS AND HOOD LATCHES.

PLEASE REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE COMPONENT OR SYSTEM TO DETERMINE LOCATION OF THE FRONT AIR BAG SENSORS.

THE SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS ARE LOCATED AT OR NEAR THE BASE OF THE B-PILLAR.

TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF EQUIPPED).


2 Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, NOTES, AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION/REACTIVATION PROCEDURE. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming

3 Remove the seat on the side with the affected safety belt buckle and pretensioner.

NOTE: To access the safety belt buckle and pretensioner bolts the seat must be positioned forward.







2. Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner cover.

Driver side only







3. Disconnect the safety belt buckle usage detection switch electrical connector.

All vehicles







4. Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.







5. Disconnect the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
1 Slide and disengage the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector locking clip.
2 Push in on the two release tabs and disconnect the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector.

INSTALLATION

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS AND NOTES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE REMOVAL PROCEDURE.

All vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.







2. Connect the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector.
1 Connect the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector.
2 Slide and engage the safety belt buckle electrical connector locking clip.







3. Install the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
1 Position the safety belt buckle and pretensioner to the seat.
2 Install the bolts.

Driver side only







4. Connect the safety belt buckle usage detection switch electrical connector.

All vehicles







5. Install the safety belt buckle and pretensioner cover.
^ Attach the hook and loop strips.

6. Restore the vehicle to operating condition.
1 Install the seat with the affected safety belt buckle and pretensioner.

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, NOTES, AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SEAT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE.

2 With the restraint system diagnostic tools still installed at the remaining deployable devices, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Prove Out Procedure
3 Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, NOTES, AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION/REACTIVATION PROCEDURE. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming

4 With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Prove Out Procedure

WARNING: THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TOOL IS FOR RESTRAINT SYSTEM SERVICE ONLY. REMOVE FROM THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO ROAD USE. FAILURE TO REMOVE COULD RESULT IN INJURY AND POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS.

5 Check the active restraint system for correct operation.
