Field Coil, Alternator

1. Check the field coil windings with a growler lamp for shorts to the housing or pole shoes.
1 Connect one growler lamp lead to the starter motor housing.
2 Connect the other growler lead to each field coil brush lead, in turn.
3 A short circuit will light the growler lamp.
