Alternator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles equipped with dual batteries use proper disconnect procedures. Dual Battery Disconnect
2. Disconnect the air cleaner assembly.
1 Loosen the worm clamp.
2 Remove the air cleaner bracket bolts and pull the air cleaner assembly away from its mounted position.
3. Disconnect the mass airflow sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove the drive belt from the generator.
5. Disconnect the generator rear connections.
1 Remove the B+ terminal nut and disconnect the terminal.
2 Disconnect the S electrical connector.
3 Disconnect the ASI electrical connector.
6. Remove the three bolts retaining the upper intake plenum to the generator bracket.
7. Remove the two lower generator mounting bolts and lift out the generator.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
NOTE
- On vehicles equipped with dual batteries use proper reconnect procedures. Dual Battery Disconnect
- When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
