Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Description and Operation
OPERATION AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES
The instrument cluster provides information on vehicle operation. The gauges in the instrument cluster include:
- A temperature gauge which receives its signal from a temperature sensor located in the intake manifold.
- An oil pressure gauge which receives its signal from an oil pressure sending unit located on the left side of the engine near the oil filter.
- A voltmeter which receives its signal from the continuous battery voltage circuit of connector C2.
- A fuel gauge which receives its signal from the fuel pump in the fuel tank, incorporating fuel anti-slosh circuitry in the Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) in the logic board that is mounted on the top of the instrument cluster.
- A speedometer with an odometer and a trip odometer, which receives its signal from the vehicle speed sensor.
The cluster also has instrument panel lamp socket and bulbs used for illumination and warning indicator lamps.
