REMOVAL







1. Remove the A/C tube lock coupling clip.






2. Fit the spring lock coupling disconnect tool on the tube so the tool can enter the cage opening to release the spring lock coupling.







3. Push the tool into the cage opening to release the female fitting from the A/C tube lock coupling.







4. Pull the spring lock couplings apart.

INSTALLATION







1. Check for a missing or damaged A/C tube lock coupling spring.
^ Install a new spring if the old one is damaged or missing.
^ Use a small hooked wire to remove a damaged spring.






2. Inspect the female spring lock coupling.
^ Check for scratches, corrosion, or debris from deteriorated green O-rings.

3. Clean the fittings.
a. Polish the fittings with 400 grit emery cloth.

NOTE: Use a twisting motion to prevent any scratches from crossing the O-ring sealing surface.

b. Polish the fittings with 600 grit emery cloth.
c. Use a lint-free cloth to remove any polishing residue.







4. Remove the O-rings.
^ Use the plastic O-ring tool supplied in the O-ring kit.

CAUTION: Do not use metal O-ring tools. They can cause axial scratches across the O-ring sealing grooves, resulting in refrigerant leakage and A/C system failure.

5. Install a new green O-ring.
^ Lubricate with clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.

CAUTION: Use only the specified O-rings. Use of any other O-rings can result in intermittent leakage during vehicle operation.

6. Lubricate the male fitting, the green O-rings, and inside the female fitting.
^ Lubricate with clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C321-B.
7. Install the plastic indicator ring into the cage opening.

NOTE: The use of the plastic indicator ring is optional.

8. Fit the female fitting onto the male fitting and push with a twisting motion until the garter spring snaps the flared end of the female fitting.

NOTE: If the plastic indicator ring is used, it will snap out of the cage opening when the coupling is connected to indicate engagement.

9. Check the spring lock coupling engagement by making sure the garter spring is over the flared end of the fitting.







10. Install the A/C tube lock coupling clip.
