Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair

SPECIAL TOOLS

Jaw Puller:






Coil Pressing Tool:






Compressor Clutch Holding Tool:






Differential Side Bearing Puller:






Field Coil Replacer:






Shaft Protector:







REMOVAL






1. Remove the A/C compressor.







2. Use the (A) Compressor Clutch Molding Tool to remove the (B) A/C clutch bolt.

NOTE: Before disassembling A/C compressor, check the A/C clutch air gap.







3. Pull the A/C clutch and shims from compressor shaft.







4. Remove the pulley snap ring.







5. Remove the A/C clutch pulley and A/C compressor pulley bearing.







6. Remove the A/C clutch field coil.
a. Position the Shaft Protector on the nose opening of the compressor.
b. Use the (A) Differential Side Bearing Puller to remove the (B) field coil.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean the A/C clutch field coil mounting surface head.







2. Use the (A) Field Coil Replacer, (B) Coil Pressing Tool and (C) 2-Jaw Puller to install the (D) A/C clutch field coil.

NOTE: Check that the A/C clutch field coil outer diameter bottoms completely against the head. Make sure the coil electrical connector is correctly positioned.







3. Install the A/C compressor pulley bearing and the A/C clutch pulley.







4. Install the pulley snap ring with the beveled side out.
5. Place one nominal thickness shim inside the A/C clutch spline opening.







6. Slide the A/C clutch onto the compressor shaft.







7. Use the (A) Compressor Clutch Holding Tool to install a new (B) A/C clutch bolt.
^ Inspect the air gap.
8. Install the A/C compressor.
