Transmission Cooler: Description and Operation
MAIN OIL COOLER
The oil cooler is an internal oil to coolant type mounted in the radiator left tank. Steel tube and rubber oil lines feed the oil cooler and the automatic transmission. Use only approved transmission oil cooler hose. Since these lines are molded, only molded hoses are recommended. Flare the end of steel tube to ensure sealing of the hose. Torque Oil Cooler Hose Clamps to 2.5 Nm (22 inch lbs.).
AUXILIARY OIL COOLER
An external oil-to-air type is mounted ahead of the cooling module on some vehicles. This style cooler uses steel tube and rubber oil lines to feed oil from the internal cooler to the external and then to the automatic transmission. Use only approved transmission oil cooler hose. Since these are molded to fit space available, molded hoses are recommended.
