Removal

PROCEDURE
1. Raise vehicle using a frame contact type hoist or correctly jack and support the vehicle using jack stands.
2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly from the side of the vehicle requiring service to the park brake cable.
3. Remove the rear brake drum from the rear hub/bearing assembly.

Hub/Bearing Dust Cap:





4. Remove dust cap from rear hub/bearing assembly.

5. Remove cotter pin, nut retainer, wave washer, and nut and washer attaching the hub/bearing assembly to the spindle.

NOTE: Remove the rear park brake cable from only one rear park brake lever at a time. Failure to do so will result in high efforts required, to connect the park brake cables to equalizer or the park brake lever.

6. Disconnect park brake cable from park brake lever on rear brake assembly.

Removing Park Brake Cable From Support Plate:





7. Position a 1/2 box wrench over the retainer on the end of the parking brake cable. Compress cable housing retaining fingers and start housing out of support plate. Remove wrench when retainer is free from the park brake cable mounting hole in the rear brake support plate. Alternate method is to use a aircraft type hose clamp over housing end fitting compressing the three fingers.

8. Remove the 4 routing clips attaching rear park brake cable to floor pan and frame of vehicle.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Remove shift knob from floor shifter. Shift knob is removed by removing 3/32 inch allen head set screw located on drivers side of shift knob and pulling strait up on shift knob.
11. Remove upper center console cover from vehicle.

Console Mounting Bracket And Heat Duct:





12. Remove rear console mounting bracket from park brake cable reaction bracket. Remove rear passenger compartment heat duct from vehicle, for access to park brake cables.

NOTE: Do not remove the second rear park brake cable from the equalizer. If second park brake cable is removed from the equalizer, high effort will be required to connect the park brake cables to the equalizer.

Park Brake Cable Removal From Floor Pan:





13. Remove rear park brake cable from vehicle floor pan using the following procedure. Disconnect rear park brake cable requiring replacement from equalizer. Slip the box end of a 1/2 inch over end of park brake cable. This will compress retaining tabs on end of park brake cable housing. Using a screw driver, press on end of park brake cable housing to remove cable from floor pan of vehicle.
