Removal

PROCEDURE
1. Raise vehicle using a frame contact type hoist or correctly jack up the vehicle and support it using jack stands.
2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly from the side of the vehicle requiring service to the park brake cable.
3. Remove rear disc brake caliper from adapter and rotor. Then remove the rotor from the hub.

4. Remove dust cap from rear hub/bearing assembly.

5. Remove the cotter pin, nut retainer, wave washer and the nut and washer attaching the hub/ bearing assembly to the spindle.
6. Remove parking brake shoe assemblies from the rear disc brake adapter. See Park Brake Shoes Service and Repair for the removal procedure.

NOTE: Remove the rear park brake cable from only one rear park brake lever at a time. Failure to do so will result in high efforts required, to connect the park brake cables to equalizer or the park brake lever.

7. Disconnect park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.

Removing Park Brake Cable From Adapter:





8. Remove park brake cable from adapter using the following procedure. Compress retaining tabs on park brake cable housing using a small screwdriver while pulling and rotating park brake cable until cable is removed from adapter.

9. Remove the 4 routing clips attaching rear park brake cable to floor pan and frame of vehicle.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Move passenger side front seat to its full forward position.
12. Remove the drivers side front seat assembly from the vehicle.
13. Remove rear seat lower cushion from vehicle.

Park Brake Equalizer And Cover:





14. Remove both lower rear door opening sill moldings. This is required to allow rear section of carpeting to be folded forward. This will expose the equalizer cover which is attached to the park brake cable reaction bracket.
15. Remove the park brake equalizer cover from the reaction bracket.

NOTE: Do not remove the second rear park brake cable from the equalizer. If second park brake cable is removed from the equalizer, high effort will be required to connect the park brake cables to the equalizer.

Park Brake Cable Removal From Floor Pan:





16. Remove rear park brake cable from vehicle floor pan using the following procedure. Disconnect rear park brake cable requiring replacement from equalizer. Slip the box end of a 1/2 inch over end of park brake cable. This will compress retaining tabs on end of park brake cable housing. Using a screw driver, press on end of park brake cable housing to remove cable from floor pan of vehicle.
