Without Antilock Brakes

Master Cylinder (Cutaway View):

GENERAL INFORMATION
This vehicle has 2 functionally different master cylinders depending on the type of brake system the vehicle is equipped with. For standard brake and ABS brake applications, a Bendix compensating port master cylinder is used. For traction control/ABS applications, a Teves center valve master cylinder is used.

The only serviceable components on both master cylinder assemblies are the reservoir and sealing grommets. Neither of the master cylinder assemblies can be serviced, and must be replaced as assemblies if found to be defective. The reservoir is indexed to prevent installation in the wrong direction. The cap diaphragm is slit to allow atmospheric pressure to equalize on both sides of the diaphragm.

The primary and secondary outlet tubes of the master cylinder are connected to the proportioning valve on non-ABS equipped vehicles. The front port of the junction block connects to the secondary outlet tube and supplies the right rear and left front brakes. The rear port of the junction block connects to the primary outlet tube and supplies the right front and left rear brakes. On vehicles equipped with ABS or ABS with Traction Control, the master cylinder primary outlet port connects to the inboard inlet port of the Hydraulic Control Unit HCU and the secondary outlet port to the outboard inlet port of the HCU.
