Removal

PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and isolate it from the post of the battery.
2. Remove the heat shield covering the Hydraulic Control Unit HCU.

HCU Electrical Connections:





3. Disconnect the pump motor electrical connector from the HCU.

CAUTION: Verify that the vehicle ignition is off before removing the 60 way connector from the Controller Antilock Brakes CAB.

CAB Connector Locking Latch:




Unlatched 60 Way Connector:





4. Disconnect the 60 way connector from the CAB using the following procedure. Lift 60 way connector latch away from the 60 way connector, rotating the connector latch all the way back against CAB. This will lift the CAB connector away from CAB terminals.

Connector Removal From CAB:





5. Grasp connector and rotate the rear of the connector up until it clears the connector pins on the CAB. Then remove the CAB connector pin from the latch on the CAB.

Brake Tube Connections At HCU:





6. Remove the 4 chassis brake tubes from the inboard (engine) side of the HCU.

Master Cylinder Brake Tube Connections At HCU:





7. Remove the 2 brake fluid tubes coming from the master cylinder at the HCU.
8. Remove the 3 nuts attaching the HCU mounting isolators to the HCU mounting bracket. Two nuts are located toward the dash panel and 1 is at the front of mounting bracket just above the power steering fluid reservoir.
9. Remove the HCU from its mounting bracket.
10. Transfer the CAB from the removed HCU to the replacement HCU. Refer to Controller Antilock Brakes CAB Service and Repair, for the require procedure.Service and Repair
