NO: 23-74-96GROUP: Body
DATE: Dec. 20, 1996
SUBJECT:
Door Rattle Repair
MODELS:
1995 - 1996 (FJ) Avenger/Sebring/Talon
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Four conditions may be experienced depending on vehicle build dates as follows:
1. All vehicles may experience a popping noise, heard coming from the front of the door glass, when driving with the glass in the full-up position.
2. Vehicles built between May 1, 1995 and May 31, 1996 (MDH 05-01-XX to 05-31-XX) may experience a loud rattle when closing the door with the glass in the half to fully open position.
3. Vehicles built prior to August 1, 1996 (MDH 08-01-XX) may experience a light rattle heard at the top of the door with the glass fully opened.
4. Vehicles built prior to September 1, 1996 (MDH 09-01-XX) may experience a light squeak or itch noise heard during glass operation.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. With the windows fully up, drive the vehicle over various road surfaces while listening for a popping noise in the door. This noise may be the result of the plastic glass guide rubbing against the metal guide track after lubricant deterioration.
2. With the glass in the half to fully open position, open and close each door while listening for a loud rattle. This may be the result of the glass guide bracket spreading allowing excess movement.
3. With the windows fully down, drive the vehicle over various road surfaces while listening for a light rattle in the top of either door. This noise may be the result of the belt molding rubbing against the door skin. Push on the molding while driving to see if it is eliminated.
4. Operate the window(s) up and down while listening for a light squeak or itch noise. This may be the inner beltline weatherstrip rubbing against the trim and weatherstrip during window operation.
If any one of these conditions are experienced, perform the Repair Procedure.
