Differential Carrier Disassembly

1. Support working base in a vise, and attach differential carrier to working base.
2. Remove differential cover and vent plug.

3. Using two hammer shafts or equivalent, slowly and carefully pry differential case assembly out of gear carrier.
CAUTION:
Ensure side bearing outer race is not dropped when removing differential case assembly. Keep right and left side bearings separate, so they do not become mixed at time of reassembly.

4. Using side bearing puller tool No. MB990810 and side bearing cup tool No. MB990811, or equivalents, pull out side bearing inner races.

5. Scribe mating marks on differential case and drive gear, then loosen drive gear attaching bolts in diagonal sequence to remove drive gear.
6. Drive out lockpin with a punch and remove pinion gears, pinion washers, side gears, side gear spacers and differential case.
7. Scribe mating marks on drive pinion and companion flange.
NOTE:
Mating marks should not be made to contact surfaces of companion flange and propeller shaft.

8. Using side bearing puller tool No. MB990810, or equivalent, drive out drive pinion together with drive pinion spacer and drive pinion front shims.
9. Mount companion flange attached to taper roller bearing puller tool No. C-293-PA and bearing remover tool C-293-45, or equivalents in a vise as shown. Pull drive pinion rear bearing inner race out of companion flange.

10. Remove drive pinion rear shim used for drive pinion height adjustment and drive pinion.
11. Remove oil seal, then drive out drive pinion front bearing from gear carrier.
12. Drive out drive pinion rear bearing outer race from gear carrier.
