Transaxle

1. Drain transmission fluid.
2. Disconnect and remove battery.
3. Remove air cleaner cover and air intake hose assembly.
4. Remove air cleaner element.

NOTE: 1995-95 F24S Turbo only: Remove Turbo pump air hoses.

5. Remove battery tray.
6. Remove battery tray stay.
7. Remove starter motor (Except 1995-96 F22J SOHC).
8. Disconnect output speed sensor connector.
9. Disconnect Park/Neutral position switch connector (Except 1996 F24S).
10. Disconnect transmission range switch connector.
11. Disconnect solenoid and pressure switch connector.
12. Disconnect input speed sensor connector.
13. Remove transaxle assembly mounting bolts.

NOTE: 1995-96 FJ22 SOHC only: Remove crankshaft position sensor.

14. Remove rear roll stopper bracket mounting bolts.
15. Position transmission jack under transmission and support with safety chain.
16. Remove transaxle mounting bracket nuts.
17. Remove transaxle oil cooler hose connections.
18. Install engine support fixture and support engine.
19. Loosen tie-rod end ball joint and knuckle connection.
20. Stabilizer link connection
21. Remove the front driveshafts.

NOTE: 1996 FJ22 SOHC only: Remove harness clip.

22. Remove center member assembly.
23. Remove front plate.
24. Remove rear plate.
25. Remove transaxle case lower cover.
26. Remove torque converter connecting bolts.
27. Remove transaxle assembly mounting bolts.
28. Remove transaxle mounting bracket.
29. Lower transaxle assembly.

INSTALLATION

1. For installation of transaxle, reverse the above procedure.
2. Check and/or adjust gearshift cable.

3. Refill transaxle with MOPAR ATF Plus 4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602, or equivalent.
