Fig. 19 Upper Control Arm Removal:
Remove upper control arm in numbered sequence, noting the following:
1. Use ball joint separator tool No. MB991113, or equivalent, to loosen, but not remove, tie rod end mounting nut.
2. Inspect ball joint as follows:
a. Inspect ball joint starting torque, which should be within 3-22 inch lbs. Replace ball joint if torque exceeds specifications.
b. Inspect ball joint dust cover, and replace control arm assembly if any cracks or tears are found.

c. Install upper arm shaft assembly at angle shown.

d. When upper arm shaft is installed as shown, inspect upper arm for bends or other damage. Replace arm if needed.
3. Reverse procedure to install.
