NO: 14-04-96GROUP: Fuel
DATE: May 31, 1996
SUBJECT:
Improper Fuel Gauge Installation/Incorrect Gauge Readings
MODELS:
1995-1996 (FJ) Talon
NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION ONLY APPLIES TO TALONS EQUIPPED WITH ALL WHEEL DRIVE.
DISCUSSION:
Fuel gauge unit/pipe assembly or fuel gauge unit/pump assembly must be aligned properly when service is performed to these units. Improper alignment will cause the fuel gauge to read incorrectly or not at all.
PROCEDURE:
Prior to inserting the unit(s), orientate either gauge unit so the stamped marks are aligned with the mark on the tank. Make adjustment as necessary to assure the marks are aligned as shown in the figure.
NOTE:
DO NOT ROTATE THE UNIT IN THE TANK. FLOAT ARM DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
Make sure the gasket did not get rolled under when the gauge unit was inserted into the tank. The gasket must be flush with the outside diameter of the gauge unit mounting flange around the entire 360 degree circumference. Hold the unit(s) from turning while tightening the nut.
Service manual revision pages will be issued to update the appropriate manuals.
