Fuel Pump: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel pump harness connector at fuel tank.
b. Start engine and let it run until it stalls, then turn ignition switch to off.
c. Disconnect battery ground cable.
d. Reconnect fuel pump harness connector.

Remove fuel pump in numbered sequence, Fig.110.
1. Remove fuel from fuel tank into a suitable container.
2. When disconnecting high pressure fuel line, cover fuel line connection with rags to prevent spraying of fuel.
3. Remove rear seat cushion and floor plate for access to fuel pump.
4. Disconnect hoses and connectors to remove fuel pump
INSTALLATION
Reverse removal procedure to install, noting the following:
1. Ensure packing seal is not damaged or deformed.
2. Apply soapy water to fuel tank threads, then install fuel pump and cap.

3. Using special cap tightening tool No. MB991480, or equivalent, Fig.111, torque cap to 36 ft.-lbs.
4. Ensure fuel pump assembly and hoses are not leaking.
