Power Steering Switch Failure
NAME OF CODE:Power Steering Switch Failure
WHEN MONITORED:
During a drive cycle more than 56 MPH.
SET CONDITION:
When the switch state shows high pressure at speeds above 56 MPH. This code takes approximately 30 seconds to set.
THEORY OF OPERATION:
The power steering pressure switch is used to sense added load by the power steering pump during low engine RPM. The engine speed is adjusted to compensate for that added load. The switch is normally open during low pressure in the power steering system. All vehicles are prepped for the switch input. The presence of the switch is learned by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when the first input is seen.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
- PCM failure
- Pressure switch sense circuit shorted to ground
- Failed switch
