Transfer Chains Length Measurement
TRANSFER CHAINS LENGTH MEASUREMENT
The need to replace the transfer chains because of excessive wear is unlikely. If chain length is suspected to be long perform the following procedure to measure the chain length:
Fig.301 Screwdriver Placement:
1. Insert a screwdriver into the 18mm hole with the screwdriver ABOVE the chains (Fig. 301).
2. Pry the chains down at the center of the chains.
Fig.302 Chain Measurement:
3. Butt a scale against the snubber and mark the scale at the bottom of the chains (Fig. 302).
Fig.303 Screwdriver Placement:
4. Insert a screwdriver into the 18mm hole with the screwdriver BELOW the chains (Fig. 303). An assistant may be needed to perform this step.
5. Pry the chains up at the center of the chain.
Fig.304 Chains Measurement:
6. Butt a scale against the snubber and place a second mark on the scale at the bottom of the chains (Fig. 304).
Fig.305 Measuring Marks On Scale:
7. Measure the distance between the two marks placed on the scale (Fig. 305). If the two marks on the scale are more than one inch apart, replace the drive chains.
8. If the transfer chains were replaced, refer to Snubber Gap Measurement in this section to verify correct snubber clearance.
