SUBJECT:
Airbag Lamp On/ATC Defaults/ Gauges Zero/No Start
MODELS:
1995 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision/LHS/New Yorker
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Airbag lamp illuminates, ATC (if equipped) defaults to "Defrost" and high blower speed, OTIS (Overhead Travel Information Center) malfunctions, instrument cluster gauges go to zero, and a no start condition exists for vehicles equipped with Vehicle Theft Alarm.
NOTE:
THIS FAILURE MODE HAS NO EFFECT ON THE ABILITY OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC MODULE TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Mopar Diagnostic System (MDS) or the Scan Tool (DRB III), check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's). If DTC "No CCD Communication" exists, disconnect the battery and remove fuses 7 and 19 from the junction block. Connect the battery. If the symptoms are eliminated, perform the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4759742 Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM)
REPA1R PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the ASDM.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
NOTE:
ON SIX PASSENGER VEHICLES IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE SHIFTER AND ASH RECEIVER, REMOVING THE LOWER CENTER TRIM COVER WILL ALLOW ACCESS TO ASDM.
2. Remove ash receiver.
3. Remove shifter knob fastener and remove shifter knob.
4. Remove shifter bezel screw located in ash receiver slot and remove shifter bezel. Disconnect ash receiver wiring.
5. Disconnect 4-way and 13-way ASDM connectors.
6. Remove two ASDM mounting screws and remove module.
7. Install new module in reverse order of removal.
