Oil Pump: Service and Repair
OIL PUMP REPLACE1. Remove oil pan as outlined under "Oil Pan, Replace", then the oil pickup tube.
2. Remove timing chain cover as outlined under "Timing Chain, Replace".
3. Reverse procedure to install. Fill oil pump rotor cavity with oil prior to installation to facilitate pump priming.
Service and Repair
OIL PUMP SERVICE
1. To remove relief valve, proceed as follows:
a. Drill a 1/8 inch hole into relief valve retainer cap and install a self-threading sheet metal screw in hole.
b. Clamp screw in a vise, then support chain case cover and tap with a suitable soft hammer to remove retainer cap.
c. Discard retainer cap, then remove spring and relief valve.
2. Remove oil pump cover screws, then the cover.
3. Remove pump rotors and wash all components in suitable solvent.
4. Carefully inspect all oil pump components for damage or wear; replace as necessary.
5. Assemble oil pump, installing new retainer cap.
